The account of the revelation of Chingichngish was written about
1812 by the Spanish priest Geronimo Boscana, serving in Southern
California. It is the oldest detailed account of the ancient Indian
culture and knowledge of that geographic area.
Chingichngish is pronounced with the accent on the second
syllable, and the "ng" sound is a Luiseno Indian sound that does
not occur in English. It is nasalized, like the Oriental "ng" sound.
